Pre-emergent to Fluent Plus
Windows on Literacy is a triple-action teaching tool suitable
for guided, shared and independent reading.
Initially created and developed in New Zealand for the National Geographic Society this programme offers a rich resource of developmental non-fiction, photographically illustrated texts for your beginning through to fluent plus readers.
The programme develops literacy skills as it introduces your pupils to the wider world around them through the key science, technology, social studies and maths themes linked to the strands in the New Zealand primary curriculum.
There are almost 300 levelled maths, science, technology and social studies readers, from Magenta Emergent level 1 through to Gold Fluent Plus level 24. There are 12 selected Big Books for additional instructional support, ideal for mat-time use.
Teacher Guides are available free on this website. These include both literacy and content-area teaching strategies with assessment suggestions. Some are also available in hard copy form at a small charge. These latter are disappearing fast so be quick.
